National Honor Society
The La Joya Community High School Chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes and encourages academic achievement while developing characteristics of good citizenship and community involvement. Members value education, serve their school, and serve their community.
Membership in the La Joya Chapter of the National Honor Society is an earned, lifelong honor.
Eligibility Requirements
Sophomores (and upperclassmen who have not previously been invited to be a member) who meet the eligible GPA of 3.5 receive an invitation to apply second semester. Students must fill out an application, which then goes to the NHS Faculty Council. This council reviews all applications and makes final membership decisions. Applicants must complete an application, which includes any community service, leadership experience, and extra-curricular involvement. Upon acceptance, the NHS will invite students to the Induction Ceremony.
What is the LJ Chapter Project this year?
The theme for this year’s chapter project is “Increasing Academic Excellence.” Students have pioneered the Student of the Month program and have established a peer-tutoring program targeted especially for freshmen.
Tutoring is available every Monday from 2:10-3:30 p.m. in room 1424 and every Tuesday from 2:10- 3:30 p.m. in room 1409.
Call to All Parents/Guardians and Community Members
We would like to establish a volunteer committee to help our students learn more about their community and provide more opportunities for meaningful community service. If you’re interested, please contact our NHS advisors, Mrs. Hope Loveland, and Mrs. Diane Woodman.
