English Department
The English Language Arts Department teaches students to learn and effectively apply a variety of reading strategies such as comprehending, interpreting, and evaluating a wide range of texts including fiction, nonfiction, classic, and contemporary works. The students analyze classic and contemporary literature for the universality of these works. Students also evaluate the author’s persuasive techniques. In their writing, students analyze the use of literary elements, write an informal report using research, and write a persuasive essay. Students also write using the Six Trait Writing Process and the Six Trait Rubric.
